Beadlet Projects

Basic Procedures For Crafters
Step 1:
Wash and Dry Hands completely to avoid skin and food oils or moisture from interfering with tape’s sticking power.
Step 2:
Plan and design idea.
Step 3:
Tape it: Tape the surface with Wacky tacky TapeTM and peel back protective red liner to expose sticky tape.
Tips For Using Wacky Tacky Tape
Step 4:
Embellish it: Apply embellishments (For best results start with largest elements and graduate to smallest ones.)
Step 5:
Bead it: Fill in remaining exposed areas with Treasure it BeadletsTM by dipping it into a container of beadlets, or if the surface is large, by pouring beadlets over it (while the surface is contained in a craft tray) and swirling the beads with your fingers in a circular direction to get the best coverage.
Step 6:

Adhering
Adhering Techniques

Use tape to adhere any two objects together or to adhere embellished tape sheets to each other. The latter technique is employed when creating our signature wallets.

Embellishing
Embellishing Techniques

For best results, embellishments should have a flat, porous surface where they will be adhered to the tape. If you have an object that is not porous (ultra shiny glass or plastic) you can sand paper it first.

Masking
Masking Techniques

Once Wacky Tacky Tape's red protective liner is removed to expose the tape’s sticky surface, areas can then be blocked off while other areas are being beaded. Masking materials must be of a substance that will pull off the tape cleanly when done masking a particular area. Save your release papers to use for blocking. You can cut these freehand with a non-stick scissor or craft knife. Or you can use craft punches to make shapes. Punches are not recommended to create shapes with the Wacky Tacky Tape itself since the punch almost immediately gets jammed with the tape adhesive. That is why we recommend using the punches on the release paper for blocking. Make sure the shiny side is placed down on top of the tape for easiest lifting.

Some examples of materials to use for blocking beyond the tape’s red liner or release paper are:
  • Lanyard or other plastic string
  • Dental floss
  • Freezer paper
  • Confetti
  • Lace

Layering
Layering Techniques

Once you have covered the exposed tape areas with images or beads, you can apply another layer of tape to build on top of your design. However, when tape is applied to an uneven surface (on top of beadlets for example) it does not have the same strength or holding power as when it is applied to a flat surface like paper or scrap art. Some examples are cross hatching or spiraling.

Diamond Effect
Diamond Effect Techniques

Diamond beadlets are clear and they are an excellent way to create an amazing 3D optical effect. This is accomplished by adhering images such as scrap art or copies of original art, to your surface; then covering the image with another layer of tape and applying clear beads on top. This can be combined with the inclusion of other embellishments for a mixed media effect. If you use torn paper in different colors or tones, you can mimic the look of broken china mosaics.

Another interesting effect is accomplished by using a combination of larger clear glass embellishments and diamond beadlets, since different sized clear glass will magnify the images underneath differently.

Also, try covering a sheet of tape in one color (ex: blue); then masking areas on the other side with tape shapes. Cover that surface in a second color (green) and then peel back the tape shapes and apply diamond over the exposed tape shape areas. This will create a see through effect where the blue beadlets from the other side show through under the diamond!!!

Mosaics with Treasure Nuggets™
Mosaics with Treasure Nuggets

“Mosaics” can be created by using embellishments for “tiles” and “tape and beads” as “grout.” Anything goes, although Treasure It Nuggets™ are particularly good for this effect.

Mosaics with Mixed Media
Mosaics with Mixed Media

Another option, is to adhere scrap art or copies of original art to your surface and then add another layer of tape as described above. However, instead of adding clear beads on top so that the image shows through, use the image as a template for building a mosaic, with all kinds of embellishments. You can combine effects too (i.e., mixed media), by using a combination of imagery and embellishments with diamond beadlets.
